EFFECTIVE WITH BOTH BIODIESEL AND WASTE / STRAIGHT VEGETABLE OIL!
Coldflow 350 or Coldflow 402 for my Biodiesel/WVO? - Generally if your Biodiesel/WVO begins to cloud and gel around 10°C and above then you need Coldflow 402. If your Biodiesel/WVO begins to cloud and gel below 10°C you need Coldflow 350
Coldflow 402 is a coldflow improver for biodiesels made from heavier animal fats i.e. Palm, Lard and Tallow. Biodiesels made from Palm Methyl Esters & Tallow Methyl Esters have much higher gelling points in comparison to standard diesels. This is where Coldflow 402 has revolutionised the market, with very small dilution rates of Coldflow 402 to biodiesel, many of our customers have been able to achieve excellent results with the minimal dilution rate of 3 Litres per 1000 Litres of biodiesel. Coldflow 402 offers the biodiesel producer the comfort knowing that their biodiesel wont be affected by cold weather conditions
Coldflow 402 is highly effective on Biodiesel's made from:
How it works - Biodiesel will cloud like petroleum diesel fuel when the weather gets cold. Initially we see little crystals of wax forming and these crystals will begin to clog fuel filters. When it becomes colder still, the biodiesel will form into a gel that will eventually set solid. Depending on the type of oils used to make your biodiesel ie. virgin rape seed oil has a lower pour-point (or CFPP 'Cold Filter Plugging Point') than used cooking oil (UCO, WVO) mixtures. This is due to the level of saturation, or number of hydrogen atoms present. This is determined by the Iodine value. Generally the higher the Iodine value of the oil, the biodiesel esters produced will take on a lower pour point. To avoid this problem we suggest your produced biodiesel is treated with Coldflow 402, flow improver additive that has been specifically designed to modify the wax crystals, lowering the pour point of the fuel
Dosage Levels - Typical dilution rates vary from 5000ppm (5 Litres) of Coldflow 402 to 10000ppm (10 Litres) per 1000 Litres of Biodiesel. The dilution rates vary due to the quality of the biodiesel. We recommend customers test the product themselves using 5000ppm - 10000ppm and achieve the dosage levels that best suits them and there customers
Application - (Standard Treatment Procedure) We recommend ColdFlow 402 is added to the biodiesel after the final filtration process is complete and whilst the biodiesel is being pumped to the clean storage vessel. The Coldflow 402 has been uniquely formulated in being able to mix rapidly with the warm biodiesel to ensure a full homogenous mixture. Coldflow 402 must be added 5°C above the cloud point of the biodiesel. Once this has been completed the Biodiesel will then have increased low temperature operating parameters. We recommend mixing thoroughly using either a re-circulation pump or mixing blade for best results. A 20 minute mix should be more than sufficient to acheive best results. Coldflow 402 can be added before biodiesel is run through resin towers for washing
General Notes on Additives:
For ease of referece - Commodity Code for this product is: 2707 50 100 00
Using the charts below: You can determine what dosage rate you wish to use, given the nature of your feedstock. For example, looking at graph 1, UCO Biodiesel, we can see that by adding 10,000 ppm (10 Litres per 1000 Litres) you can achieve a cloud point of -17°c
1 Litre of Coldflow 402 will treat approximately 200 Litres of Biodiesel at 5000ppm dosage level
