For general use with all Ion Exchange Resins, these towers are used by our customers for the dry-washing of Bio Diesel, using Purolite PD206
For optimum performance, Purolite recommend a minimum resin bed depth of 3 times the vessel diameter, the tower should also be filled with only 50% of its capacity with resin to allow for expansion
IMPORTANT - IF THE VESSEL IS FILLED WITH RESIN TO GREATER THAN 50% OF ITS TOTAL CAPACITY, THE RESIN, AS IT REACHES EXHAUSTION WILL DESTROY THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND BLOW OUT OF THE TOP, YOU WILL THEN NEED A REPLACEMENT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM. WE THEREFORE RECOMMEND WHEN FILLING YOUR OWN TOWER THAT YOU COMPLY WITH THE MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED VOLUME
Construction Constructed from wound Polyglass, wrapped around a strong Polyethylene Inner Shell, and fitted with a Polypropylene & PVC Distribution Tube
Sizes Available in various sizes, with the most popular models being 0735 and 0844. 07" x 35" has a volume of 23 litres, and will hold 11.5 litres of Resin, purifying Bio Diesel at a rate of 23 litres per hour. As the depth of the tower is more important than the diameter, the next most popular size is 08" x 44" which has a volume of 32.2 litres will hold 16.1 litres of Resin, purifying Bio Diesel at a rate of 32 litres per hour
Pumped Supply There are few pumps which will normally pump as slow as is required to supply the smaller vessels. For the least costly option we recommend our Clarke TAM105 Pump, the flow from this pump can be restricted as low as is desired by using a ball valve on its outlet and timing the through flow (using a measuring jug & stop watch) until you get the correct flow rate. For the biggest units a continous duty gear pump such as the Viscomat Gear Series would be most appropriate due to the increased resistance of the Resin. There is no way of determining the resistance of the resin in a given vessel, so if you have a large tower and the TAM105 begins to struggle, then you may need to upgrade to the Gear Pump, or add another TAM105 in series to double the outlet pressure & flow
Emtying & Discharging Emptying these towers can be a messy business, this is because the resin eventually expands to fill the vessel and it can be difficult to 'dig' it out around the central shaft. In this case it may be necessary to unscrew the cap, and wash the resin out with bio diesel via the distribution system, filtering the resin out of the bio diesel as it comes out of the tower, the resin can then be disposed of. To replace the resin, the vessel should be filled to 50% of its capacity and led down for the distribution tube to be screwed in without having to force it down into the resin, potentially damaging the tube
Seals These vessels are supplied as standard with an NBR (AKA Nitrile / Buna-N) Top Seal, which will swell when used with Bio Diesel, we therefore always recommend you purchase a replacement VITON O'Ring which is resistant to Bio Diesel
REMEMBER - IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THAT YOU FIND ANY OF OUR PRODCTS CHEAPER ELSEWHERE, WE WILL ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO MATCH OR BEAT THE PRICE!
For all filters with screw-on bowls we always recommend the use of Silicon O'Ring Grease to aid tightening of the bowl, preventing pinching & scuffing and thus prolonging the life of the O'Ring
