About the components...
1. Suction Line
The Suction Line is a 3/4"ID Polyurethane Lined, Clear PVC Hose with Steel Spiral Reinforcement, this prevents the hose from kinking under vacuum or when bent around tight corners or the top edges of tanks. The line features a weighted brass bottom valve and Stainless Steel Foot Strainer protecting the hose from ingresion of particles in excess of 1mm. Being clear, the hose also allows visual inspection of the fuel running through it, in heavily contaminated tanks this reassures the operator that the system is doing its job as the visual quality of fuel in the line will increase as the system purifies it. a Polyurethane lined hose is used for excellent chemical compatibility with a wide range of fuels including bio fuels, and fuels containing performance enhancing additives
2. Pump
The pump we use is a German Made, Flexible Impellor Pump, with a Continuous Duty rated 230v 50Hz motor, VITON impellor, and full self priming capability. This type of pump has been selected as it is designed specifically to tolerate potentially large abrasive particles, and self-prime reliably. This pump is a professional piece of equipment, with a 3 year manufacturers warranty, and with full spares availability in the unlikely event that spare parts should be required
On our panel mounted systems the pump can be controlled by an optional, mechanical, 24 hour timer, which can switch the pump on at pre-determined times of the day, and be over-ridden for continuous use. The timer must be located indoors and away from any potential cources of ignition or zoned areas
3. Primary Filter
The primary filter in the system is a 60 Micron Washable Nylon Monofilament Filter Sleeve, housed in a 10" Clear Bowled Filter Housing, with a High Visibility Filter Change Indicator. The Filter Change indicator measures the differential pressure across the filter element, and alerts when the pressure reaches a critical level, the filter bowl can then be unscrewed and the element removed for cleaning, this is done easily with detergent and a cloth or brush, and will last indefinitely
4. Centrifugal Coalescer
The Black Cylinder of the Coalescer is fitted with precision machined, perforated baffles into which hundreds, or thousands of Activated Alumina balls are trapped, Activated alumina is the same chemical substance as sapphire and rubies (but without the impurities that give those gems their color), it has a high surface-area to weight ratio due to its high porisity, and this is the key feature which enables it to remove water from fuel. The fuel enters the column via one of the side ports, where it is piped to the bottom, to make its way through the Alumina balls, on its way back up to the other horizontal port opposing the inlet. As the fuel is spread over and through the balls, The differing surface tension and density between fuel and water molecules, cause water and dirt molecules to separate from fuel molecules, finally these agglomerate to form a droplet, which then sinks to the bottom of the cylinder from where it an be drained via a tap. The Coalescer is capable of removing 99.9997*% of any water present in the fuel and requires no other maintenance, it will last indefinitely
5. Flow Meter
A high accuracy, digital LCD oval-gear flow meter is provided for two reasons... firstly the system chosen will need to operate at a specific flow rate in litres per minute, or the centrifugal coalescer will not work, the meter can be used to time the through flow against a stop watch and determine flow rate accurately. Adjustment to the flow rate is controlled by a ball valve on the flow meter outlet. Secondly the meter can show the litres of fuel purified since commissioning, this way an operator can check the system is running correctly, and at the approporiate speed to maintain a high fuel quality. The Meter is powered by AA batteries which will need changing periodically in line with manufacturers recommendations
6. Polishing Pot (Final Filter)
The Oilybits Polishing Pot features an enormous, disposable filter element which will trap any water that the coalescer misses (should the flow rate be set too high), along with particles to 3 Microns Absolute. Fuel will then pass back into the tank via a 12mmOD Nylon Hydraulic Tube. The filter is capable of removing particles to 3 Micron Absolute, and any water present, providing that the system is running at the specified flow rate
