NOTES ON FUNCTIONALITY:

  • Perform your titration 3 times to ensure correct titration value is identified
  • Catalyst Base Value is generated automatically based on the Base values used when converting Used Cooking Oil 'UCO'
  • Catalyst Purity is generated automatically based on commonly available product (KOH 90%, NaOH 99%), but can be edited
  • Methanol Required is calculated as 20% of the volume of UCO
  • Catalyst Required takes into consideration an adjustment for catalyst purity, so ensure Catalyst Purity is correct
  • Optimum process temperature is 50°c. Methanol Evaporates at 60°c and a 10°c differential is recommended
  • Reaction Basis is the type of reaction you are performing. Single Stage Base is where 100% of the methoxide mixture is added to the UCO, this will never lead to a complete reaction but is easiest to perform, and methanol recovery in the same tank can take place before draining of the glycerol. Two Stage Base-Base is where 80% of the methoxide is added to the UCO, the Glycerol drained after the normal mixing time, then the final 20% Methoxide is added and mixed, followed by final Glycerol draining. This can result in a complete, or near ASTM/EN spec reaction, but the glycerol needs to be removed to another tank for methanol recovery as if it were put back into the biodiesel then the reaction could reverse producing glycerides
