Coldflow 350 - Reduce Freezing Point to -15C (WVO/SVO Biodiesel) 20L

Product Information

Coldflow 350 - Winter Additive

Coldflow 350 or Coldflow 402 for my Biodiesel/WVO? - Generally if your Biodiesel/WVO begins to cloud and gel around 10°C and above then you need Coldflow 402. If your Biodiesel/WVO begins to cloud and gel below 10°C you need Coldflow 350

COLDFLOW 350 CAN ALSO BE USED ON PETROLEUM DIESEL - This is what the Arctic Adventures / Military use to reduce the pour point of normal Diesel in extreme cold environments

Coldflow 350 is a coldflow improver for biodiesel made from Used Cooking Oils, Waste Vegetable Oils, and Straight Vegetable Oils. Biodiesels made from vegetable oils have much higher gelling points in comparison to standard diesels. This is where Coldflow 350 has revolutionised the market, with very small dilution rates of Coldflow 350 to biodiesel, many of our customers have been able to achieve excellent results such as one producer in Scotland who achieved -17°C with the minimal dilution rate of 3 Litres per 1000 Litres of biodiesel. Coldflow 350 offers the biodiesel producer the comfort knowing that their biodiesel wont be affected by cold weather conditions. Coldflow has been on the biodiesel market for the past 5 years and is renowned as one of the market leaders in biodiesel winterising additives. We sell this product across Europe and supply all types of biodiesel producers from small to refinery level

Coldflow 350 is highly effective on Biodiesel's made from:

  • Vegetable Oil waste/Virgin
  • Rapeseed Oil waste/Virgin
  • Soybean Oil waste/Virgin
  • Used Cooking Oils
  • Mustard Seed Oil waste/Virgin
  • Algae Oil
  • Recycled Oil's from restaurants, chip shops etc

How it works - Biodiesel will cloud like petroleum diesel fuel when the weather gets cold. Initially we see little crystals of wax forming and these crystals will begin to clog fuel filters. When it becomes colder still, the biodiesel will form into a gel that will eventually set solid. Depending on the type of oils used to make your biodiesel ie. virgin rape seed oil has a lower pour-point (or CFPP 'Cold Filter Plugging Point') than used cooking oil (UCO, WVO) mixtures. This is due to the level of saturation, or number of hydrogen atoms present. This is determined by the Iodine value. Generally the higher the Iodine value of the oil, the biodiesel esters produced will take on a lower pour point. To avoid this problem we suggest your produced biodiesel is treated with ColdFlow 350, flow improver additive that has been specifically designed to modify the wax crystals, lowering the pour point of the fuel

Dosage Levels - Typical dilution rates vary from 3000ppm (3 Litres) of Coldflow 350 to 5000ppm (5 Litres) per 1000 Litres of Biodiesel. The dilution rates vary due to the quality of the biodiesel. We recommend customers test the product themselves using 3000ppm - 5000ppm and achieve the dosage levels that best suits them and there customers

Application - (Standard Treatment Procedure) We recommend Coldflow 350 is added to the biodiesel after the final filtration process is complete and whilst the biodiesel is being pumped to the clean storage vessel. The Coldflow 350 has been uniquely formulated in being able to mix rapidly with the warm biodiesel to ensure a full homogenous mixture. Coldflow 350 must be added 5°C above the cloud point of the biodiesel. Once this has been completed the Biodiesel will then have increased low temperature operating parameters. We recommend mixing thoroughly using either a re-circulation pump or mixing blade for best results. A 20 minute mix should be more than sufficient to acheive best results. Coldflow 350 can be added before biodiesel is run through resin towers for washing

General Notes on Additives:

  • All of the additives we sell can be used together in the same batch of fuel (with a choice of EITHER coldflow 350 OR coldflow 402)
  • All of the additives we sell must be added to the Biodiesel/WVO individually, they cannot be mixed together and then added to the biodiesel
  • All of the additives we sell can be added to the Biodiesel/WVO at room temperature, but the Biodiesel/WVO itself must be at the recommended temperature as per the application instructions above
  • In their raw form the only additives that are classed as 'hazardous' are Bioboost 1000, and Allklear 400 which are flammable, however, when mixed with biodiesel / WVO the resulting mix is not flammable and as such is not hazardous. As these additives are used in such small concentrations with biodiesel they would also not register as harmful to the environment once mixed

For ease of referece - Commodity Code for this product is: 2707 50 100 00

Using the charts below: You can determine what dosage rate you wish to use, given the nature of your feedstock. For example, looking at graph 1, UCO Biodiesel, we can see that by adding 10,000 ppm (10 Litres per 1000 Litres) you can achieve a cloud point of -17°c
