Robinson Manufacturing Fuel Sampler/Thief, 'Flask Sampler'
The Robinson Flask Sampler is used for obtaining a running sample and/or collecting samples at intermediate levels of various types of storage tanks. The sampler is made with a solid brass weight at the bottom of the flask to help pull the sampler down into the tank when empty. This model requires two lowering ropes or chains (order seperately), one for lowering/raising the sampler and a second for releasing the cork to begin sample collection. Samplers with ¾-inch wide and 1½-inch wide neck openings are available. This sampler follows ASTM D4057 testing standards.

Samplers can either be lowered with a specialised hand-winch, for smooth and clean operation, or, more crudely, with a length of cotton rope, cotton is used because it is chemically resistant to all fuels, any also fibre that enters the fuel will not harm it, what with fuel filters being made from cotton fibre also.
