Emco Wheaton 16000 Series, Automatic Shutoff Diesel Refuelling System for Trains

PLEASE EMAIL US FOR PRICING

Emco Wheaton designed and developed the first automatic diesel fueling system for the railway industry in 1958. For over two decades, Emco Wheaton has worked closely with railroad personnel in the continuing refinement of refuelling service to meet the increasing demands of the industry and government. Today, thousands of diesel units use Emco Wheaton Refueling Systems to incease the efficency and control the costs of fueling platform operations.

Refueling Service Efficiency

The Emco Wheaton Automatic Refueling System for Diesel Locomotives prevents fuel tank underfill and overfill conditions, prevents fuel spillage and permits unattended operations. By preventing spillage, the cost of wasted fuel and potential pollution problems are avoided. Unattended operation improves the efficiency of fuel platform personnel as they may attend to other duties while refueling is taking oplace.

Simple Operation

A simple twist engages the nozzle to the adapter. Fueling begins by pulling the nozzle lever. When the tank is full, the nozzle shuts off. Double valve design of the nozzle permits easy opening regardless of static pressure.

No Locomotive Modification

The Emco Wheaton 16000 series Automatic Refueling System requires no locomotive shop time to install. Minimal drilling, cutting or welding required. One hole in the fuel tank is necessary. No external hoses or fittings are needed with internal sensing and only one hose is required with extternal sensing.

Installs In Minutes

The Emco Wheaton G1620 adapter fits all diesel classifications. It can be installed in minutes without special training.

Controlled Shutoff

No spill or run over. Consistent level of fil. Nozzle shuts off at the same fuel level every time. Soft closing assured with no shock to hose.

Economical Change-Over

It is not necessary to carry out complete fleet change-over at one time. The Emco Wheaton Nozzle is compatible with 'Protecto-Seal' equipped locomotives. Likewise, in event of an emergency, a Protecto-Seal coupler can be attached to an Emco Wheaton Adapter.

Reduced Fueling Time

With 300 GPM flow capability and unattended operation, locomotive fueling time is dramatically reduced. Plus fueling can take place while service platform personnel attend to other duties

Trouble-Free Service

There are no moving parts to maintain on the locomotive. Shutoff mechanism is in the nozzle.

Railroad Users

The 16000 Series Diesel Fueling System is used by: Missouri Pacific Union Pacific Southern Pacific.

How The 16000 System Works

The Emco Wheaton G16000 System uses only two basic components: The Adapter and The Nozzle. The Emco Wheaton Adapter is mounted to the diesel unit at each fueling connection on the locomotive chassis. Minimal modification is required for installation. Simply remove existing fuel fittings and replace with the Emco Wheaton Adapter. All adapters are equipped with dust caps. A manual adapter is available when refueling cannot be done with the G1630 nozzle.

The Automatic Nozzle

One basic nozzle handles all fueling requirements and provides a fuel flow range from 50 to 300 GPM. The nozzle is hydraulically balanced to permit easy opening and shock free closing. This feature makes it possible to save fueling time by starting the pump before attaching the nozzle. Increased pumping rates are also possible since higher pump relief valve settings may be used with safety. The Enco Wheaton Nozzle assures automatic shutoff when the fuel tank reaches capacity. When fuel level reaches the level shut off tube, fuel transfer is shut off automatically. The tank is ful. Overfill and underfill conditions are completely avoided. Fuel tank levels are consistent from fill to fill. Spill hazard is virtually eliminated.

Since automatic shuttoff is housed in the Emco Wheaton Nozzle and not in the locomotive, bench repairs can be made without involving locomotive downtime. This feature keeps the locomotives in service as maintenance takes place. The tripping mechanism of the Emco Wheaton Nozzle seals it against dirt, dust and other foreign matter. Additional reliability and long service life come from a teflon piston seal and teflon bearings. Safety features include a test plug for checking pressure and flow rate. Fueling operations are eased by a raised ramp on the outlet coupler ring that provides easy nozzle attachment and release from the locomotive adapter.
