Emco Wheaton Posi-Lock 105, Automatic Dry-Break Fueling System For Buses
EMCO Wheaton’s PosiLock 105 is recognised as the leading closed loop fuel system for city buses and other fleet vehicles. The system’s high flow rate and dry-break couplings offer users an effective fueling solution with zero risk of spillage. The PosiLock 105 is also equipped with an automatic shut off mechanism and consistent fuel level delivery, guaranteeing a vehicle’s tank is always filled to 95% capacity. This product is key to the safe and efficient operation of today’s fleets and is used by both businesses and local authorities across the world.
The PosiLock 105 closed loop fuel system comprises of a lightweight fueling nozzle and filler neck. The nozzle is attached to a fuelling station while the filler neck is mounted onto the tank of a vehicle. Both the nozzle and filler neck are equipped with dry-break disconnect couplings. This eliminates fuel spillage during operation, helping organisations to minimise losses when processing a high number of vehicles throughout the day. These couplings will also help save on disposal costs once fuel has been collected in separators and eliminate the risk of theft. Nozzles will not dispense without an active connection and tanks are inaccessible once a filler neck has been fitted. The PosiLock 105’s nozzle is capable of dispensing fuel up to 185 litres/min (50 US gallons/min), allowing a high throughput of vehicles during busy periods. The system is also fitted with a pressure gauge that triggers automatic shut off, so operators are free to attend to other tasks while a tank is being filled. These features significantly speed up the time it takes to prepare a fleet for the road. Arguably the biggest benefit of the PosiLock 105 is its in-built fuel level, which guarantees every tank is filled to 95% capacity. This avoids premature underfueling, which can cause vehicles to stop mid traffic and add delays to a schedule. Better still the system’s design limits operator issues, so common human errors associated with fueling is virtually eliminated.
Operation:
To begin fueling, the operator connects the nozzle to the adapter on the bus, opens the poppet lever, then locks open the fueling lever. With the nozzle open, fuel enters the tank of the bus. As the tank fills, the exiting air activates the whistle. The whistle sounds until the tank is filled to the design capacity. When the tank is approximately 95% full, the Level Control Valve closes. In turn, the nozzle automatically shuts off when it senses the back-pressure in the fuel tank. The fuel tank is protected by the pressure relief valve.
Environmental Benefits:
- Elimination of liability related to contamination of water and soil by spilled diesel fuel.
- Elimination of on-road spillage related to sloshing of fuel.
Health & Safety Benefits:
- Keeps workers and their environment clean and safe.
Potential cost savings:
- Reduction in the cost of fuel spilled (and wasted).
- Reduction in costs related to the disposition of spilled diesel fuel, water, and absorbent cleaning materials.
95% Fill Always:
- No premature shut-off related to fuel foaming.
Eliminating Spillage and Theft:
- Fuel cannot be dispensed from the nozzle unless it is properly coupled to the bus. This eliminates inappropriate use or inadvertent spillage of fuel purchased by the bus company.
Vandalism Minimized:
- Because the POSI/LOCK 105‚ is a closed system, it is virtually impossible to vandalize the system by introducing foreign materials or liquids into the nozzle or the fuel tank of the bus.
Labor savings:
- Reduced time needed to fuel buses due to “fast filling” and fueler not having to attentively fill the tank to capacity.
- Increased efficiency as fueler can perform other tasks while bus is filling.
- Elimination of labor cost associated with cleaning up spills.
