Stanhope-Seta Bacon Bomb / Fuel Sampling Vessel / Sample Thief

Most commonly referred to as the "Bacon Bomb" the Stanhope-Seta Sampling Vessel / Sample Thief obtains samples from storage tanks, tank cars and drums.

  • Obtains bottom samples, or samples from any level
  • Four different capacities
  • Plated Brass, Stainless Steel, or Acrylic Construction
  • Standard Viton O-Ring
  • Optional metal-to-metal seal

When the thief strikes the bottom of the tank, a plunger assembly opens to admit the sample. The plunger closes again when the bomb is withdrawn, forming a tight seal. Samples can be taken at any depth with the use of a secondary trip line, or extension rods may be added for obtaining samples at levels of up to 18 (46cm) off the bottom. Equipped with plunger locking cam for tight closure during transport (except for 4 oz 1 1/8" dia. model). Special models include a 4 oz (118mL) ‘pencil’ model for sampling through small diameter pipes and openings, and clear acrylic samplers with plated brass plunger and end pieces.

Samplers can either be lowered with a specialised hand-winch, for smooth and clean operation, or, more crudely, with a length of cotton rope, cotton is used because it is chemically resistant to all fuels, any also fibre that enters the fuel will not harm it, what with fuel filters being made from cotton fibre also. Rope can be found in the options below, priced per metre. Hand Winches can be found by clicking the image below:

For sample analysis of H.Res (Diesel Bug), bacteria, and fungi, Oilybits recommend Fuelstat Resinae Plus and Diesel Plus Fuel Test Kits, for information and to order please click the image below;
